About
Getting dressed is my favorite part of the day - so why would I make an exception for my gym outfit? As somone who is vintage-obsessed and plagued by nostalgia, I immediately fell in love with the idea of drawing inspiration from the '00s legends like Anna Kournikova, Britney Spears or Jessica Alba and bring more fun, patterns, colors into my gym wardrobe. Rummage Stretch, who pioneered this trend, and her incredible finds made my adhd brain switch into source mode and I started scouring the internet for vintage activewear, that I would want to see in the gym mirrors.
I researched more about the materials used back in the day and how they differ to the ones used today. Polyester is a good example. It wasn’t necessarily a fundamentally different fiber, but it was often spun and finished differently. Early-2000s polyester in sportswear tended to be thicker and less engineered for extreme lightness, so it could feel softer and less “plastic-y” against the skin. Today’s polyester is often optimized for performance metrics like moisture-wicking and stretch at the lowest possible weight and cost, which can sometimes make it feel thinner, slicker, or less substantial. In contrast, older polyester blends often prioritized durability and a more fabric-like hand feel over technical performance claims. So what's not to love? Not having to buy new sportswear, while sweating in better materials? Sign me up.
I hope you have fun browsing my finds and get inspired to look to the past for unique gymfits <3
